This module will be delivered using a blended learning approach via Moodle delivered content alongside lectures and tutorials. Expertise from a range of occupational therapy staff will contribute to developing the understanding of range an theoretical underpinning of research studies. Online self-study will provide the theoretical background to the topics being covered, allowing for on-campus learning to focus on more interactive methods of learning (LO 1-5).Tutorial sessions will focus on helping students to conceptualise theoretical perspectives and to apply concepts to their identified area of interest (LO 4-5).Seminars will allow you to explore research through critical discussion, analysis and evaluation of theoretical information (LO 1-3). The seminars will also provide the opportunity for formative feedback to be obtained.Individual supervision will support you to identify and develop an appropriate area of research and refine your methodology (LO 1-5).

The formative assessment will take the form of a short presentation outlining the research idea and the envisioned methodology to address the issue you have identified. You will have the opportunity to give and receive feedback to and from your peers and also from members of the academic staff. This process will enable you to interact with each other and will provide an overview of different research questions, approaches and areas of practice.

You will submit a research protocol which details the methodological approach you will take for your subsequent dissertation (you will undertake in year-2 of your program). This protocol of 3000 words (plus appropriate appendices) will encompass an ethics submission for a project to collect primary data or a methodological protocol for a systematic literature search and synthesis (LOs 1-5). The assessment will be submitted in the end of module assessment week.
