Description of module content:

This module explores theories for and of social work; examines knowledge drawn from different discipline and your application to social work; reflecting on models and methods of intervention and review in the social work context. This module will provide you with an advance level understanding of theories and methods drawn from the social sciences and to access and integrate your application to social work. Critical reflection and rationale will be developed to understand the effectiveness of different social work approaches and interventions. The module will support students to acquire critical analysis skills, to produce balanced and evidence-based arguments in relation to social work skills, methods and theories. To enhance the authentic experience of the module, it will incorporate group discussion and exercises, debate, guest speakers including people receiving services and their carers, lectures and videos.

Upon completion of this module you will be able to

LO1: Critically evaluate the relationship of social theory to social work

LO2: Examine different methods of social work intervention and their relevance in practice.

LO3: Develop critical skills of reflection and analysis in relation to social work practice.

LO4: Demonstrate an advance level understanding of different perspectives and explanations about
human behaviour.

Face To Face Lecture 10 In-person lectures will introduce you to key social work theories, models and methods. Lectures will include interactive discussions and activates to help you to apply theory to practice. Lectures will include guest speakers from social work practice, and people with lived experience.

Essay 100 1~2~3~4~5~6 Exam Period , WORDS= 2500 words You will be required to read a novel or autobiography to prepare for your assessment. The narrative in the book will be used as a case study on which Social Work theories and models will be critically applied. This will be done in a 2500 word essay.
