Description of module content:

In this module you will carry out a piece of research, either through conducting a literature review or piece of original research on a topic aligned to your research interests. In preparation for you to conduct this dissertation, the content of this module will focus on the following core topics
• How to choose your research topic and develop an original research question (L01)
• How to choose an appropriate and feasible research design in order to answer your research question? (L02)
• How to develop a literature search strategy (L03)
• Critical appraisal of literature using standardized tools (L03)
• How to adopt a rigorous approach to data collection/extraction (LO3)
•How to adopt a rigorous approach towards analysis and synthesis of data (L03)
• How to navigate ethical and research governance issues (L04)
• Writing up your project and considering how to critique the implications of the proposed research on health and social care policy, practice, research and/or education (when drawing conclusions/recommendations about your project (LO5)

Learning Outcomes for module:

1. Formulate an appropriate research that addresses a gap in the evidence base
2. Critique and identify an appropriate study design method to answer a research question
3. Adopt a rigorous approach to all phases of the research study (including searching/appraising the literature, collection, extraction, analysis and synthesis of data)
4. Critically reflect on and address ethical and research governance issues, in relation to the methods of data collection and analysis for the study
5. Critique the implications of the proposed research on health and social care policy, practice, research and/or education
