Description of module content:

This module is for healthcare practitioners interested in developing and using health technologies to improve healthcare experiences and outcomes. The aim of this module is to provide underpinning knowledge to understand, envision and lead the design and development of innovation in health care products, processes and services. The module will include the following content:1. Inclusive innovation and entrepreneurial mindset philosophy. 2. Health professional led medical product design, development and commercialisation.3. Producing a business plan. 4. Improving access and usability of healthcare technology.

Independent Learning Lecture 24 We will use a ‘flipped classroom’ approach whereby each week you will watch a pre-recorded lecture. These will be between 1-2 hours in duration. Each lecture will be accompanied by a set of written notes by the lecturer to orientate you to the lecture content. These notes will highlight some key issues to consider and some further reading for your independent study.
Independent Learning Tutorial 24 You will have the opportunity to take part in live online tutorials. These tutorials are intended to help guide you in your independent learning of the subject, to acquire a deeper understanding of the core topics, to open a discussion on the key issues, and to share your learning experiences with your peers as a community of learners.
Online Guided independent study 352 You are required to engage in independent learning on a weekly basis. You will be directed to some core reading as well as some indicative reading based upon your area of healthcare practice. You will be expected to log onto the module discussion board area to discuss the critical issues with your peers.

Project - Written 70 1~2~3~4 10 , WORDS= 4000-4500 WORDS n this module you will complete a technology appraisal of any intervention that may be used to promote health; to prevent, diagnose or treat a disease; or in rehabilitation or long-term care. The following is an outline of the assignment guidance: • A description of the technology – what it is used for and how it works.• The burden of disease – who gets the disease and what are the typical outcomes• The clinical effectiveness and safety – how does the technology affect outcomes and are there any harms associated with its use• The cost-effectiveness and budget impact – is the technology good value for money and is it affordable• What are the organisational and social aspects – how does the technology impact on patients and the organisation of services• Appraisal of ethical and legal issues – does the technology have any ethical or legal implications?You will submit a written assignment (4000-4500) of your technology appraisal. Additionally, you will use the above information to create a proposal of a business plan, which will be submitted as an appendix to your written assignment.The technology appraisal and business plan proposal equate to 70% of your overall module marks.
Oral Presentation 30 1~2~3~4 13 HOURS= 10 minutes? You will prepare a poster that provides an executive summary of your technology appraisal/business plan that would be suitable for presenting to management. You will present your poster to your peers. Your poster will equate to 30% of your overall marks.
