Description of module content:

In this module you will develop a set of skills required by all professionals when exploring a work related problem. The skills you will develop will include how to search and critically examine the literature. You will explore and develop understanding of a range of quantitative and qualitative investigation methods and data collection tools to explore and inform ways of solving workplace issues. You will also develop skills in report writing and presentation of findings and recommendations.

Learning Outcomes for module:

Upon completion of this module you will be able to

LO1: Critically appraise relevant literature to determine a feasible topic for employment focussed project.

LO2: Justify the selection of appropriate design and investigatory techniques for employment focussed project.

LO3: Defend the selection and use of data collection techniques and methods of analysis.

LO4: Produce a detailed proposal to conduct an employment focussed project.

LO5: Critically evaluate the impact of the employment focussed project on practice.

Face To Face Lecture 10 In person lectures will allow you to explore and apply theory to consolidate your knowledge and understanding.
Independent Learning Lecture 5 A flipped classroom approach will be utilised which involves lectures which will be pre-recorded and uploaded weekly on the VLE at least 5 days prior to the seminar to allow you to access at a time most suitable for you. The lecture recording will include subtitles/close-captioning.
Independent Learning Seminar 5 Weekly online seminars will be lecturer facilitated and will allow you to explore and apply theory introduced during the pre-recorded lectures to consolidate your knowledge and understanding. The majority of the discussion will be student-led. To get full benefit from the seminar and to support other students, you are expected to come prepared having engaged with the online lecture material.
Independent Learning Tutorial 2 A group tutorial will be offered focussed on discussing the formative assessment task and will involve a peer feedback session. This is intended to support all students in the tutorial to learn from each other fostering an assessment for learning approach.
Online Guided independent study 178 Throughout the trimester, you are expected to structure in time to reflect upon the learning you have undertaken in your scheduled sessions and to complete your essential reading. You are encouraged to read more widely around the topics you are studying and engage in Moodle activities and resources. You will need to ensure that you have sufficient time to prepare and plan for your assessment tasks.
