Description of module content:

This module will introduce you to key concepts relating to the management of delivery of healthcare services. The module addresses the key policy drivers nationally and globally for healthcare. You will learn how organisational changes are required to manage complexities in healthcare, seeking to improve service delivery. This module will address the impact of change, management of resources and organisational development with support from human resources (HR). Topics will include organisational structure; aims, strategy and values; finance; national and global healthcare policy drivers; sustainability of healthcare services, health technology; specialist role in healthcare; managing change; project management; resource management; Human resource contributions-workforce planning; workforce development; performance management; inclusion, diversity, equality.

Learning Outcomes for module:

Upon completion of this module you will be able to

LO1: Critically evaluate the policy drivers in shaping contemporary health and social services.

LO2: Critically investigate the complexities involved in leadership, resource management, evidence base, policy implementation and the management of change in relation to service redevelopment.

LO3: Critically appraise the application of advanced technologies and resilience requirement of an organisation to address innovation and service delivery.

LO4: Evaluate the contribution of human resources to organisational effectiveness and the impact of the change in service delivery.

Face To Face Lecture 10 In person lectures will allow you to explore and apply theory introduced during the lectures to consolidate your knowledge and understanding.
Independent Learning Lecture 5 A flipped classroom approach will be utilised which involves lectures which will be pre-recorded and uploaded weekly on the VLE at least 5 days prior to the seminar to allow you to access at a time most suitable for you. The lecture recording will include subtitles/close-captioning.
Independent Learning Seminar 5 Weekly online seminars will be lecturer facilitated and will allow you to explore and apply theory introduced during the pre-recorded lectures to consolidate your knowledge and understanding. The majority of the discussion will be student-led. To get full benefit from the seminar and to support other students, you are expected to come prepared having engaged with the online lecture material.
Online GROUPSCHEDULED 6 You will work in groups to develop a business plan which you will later present individually as part of your summative assignment.
Online Guided independent study 174 Throughout the trimester, you are expected to structure in time to reflect upon the learning you have undertaken in your scheduled sessions and to complete your essential reading. You are encouraged to read more widely around the topics you are studying and engage in Moodle activities and resources. You will need to ensure that you have sufficient time to prepare and plan for your assessment tasks.
