Description of module content:

You will develop an understanding of how culture works and why it matters in international business. You will consider how theoretical concepts and frameworks can help you identify and understand cultural differences in perception and their impact on attitudes and behaviour. You will see the ways in which cultures influences how people approach, for example, leadership, motivation, relationships and team work.Through lectures and interactive tutorials, this module will help you to develop intercultural awareness and to critically reflect on what it means to develop intercultural competence and 'a global mindset'.

Learning Outcomes for module:

Upon completion of this module you will be able to

LO1: Demonstrate an understanding of basic concepts in the field of intercultural communication and management.

LO2: Classify cultural differences in behaviour in everyday life, university life and in business.

LO3: Identify the appropriate response to cultural differences in everyday life, university life and business.

LO4: Carry out research into cultural differences and apply your findings to specific critical incidents in intercultural management.

Face To Face Lecture 11 Theoretical concepts and practical examples of cultural issues in organisational management will be presented in the lecture.
Face To Face Practical classes and workshops 22 During the tutorials you will take part in exercises and group work to explore these concepts as they relate to your day-to-day life, university experience and international business organisation and communication.
Online Guided independent study 167 Materials will be available on Moodle and in hard copy as appropriate. One of the aims of the module is to inculcate an acceptance of and strategies for coping with diversity. The module is inherently international and supports the integration of students from all backgrounds.

For your chosen case study, you can choose to focus on one conceptual area only or you can write about the topic more generally.
