Description of module content:

This module provides an introduction to the development of culture and society in Scotland, covering a range of topics such as history, politics and language. In addition, the lecture schedule varies slightly each trimester to reflect the broad spectrum of issues to this module. As part of this module, you will also take part in a half day trip and a visit to Edinburgh Castle.

Project - Written 10 1~3 Week 8 , WORDS= 500 The first coursework assessment is an Audio-Visual Project, consisting of a PPT presentation of 10-12 slides each with an embedded audio recording of 1-2 minutes. Writing task is to be embedded in the Powerpoint slides. You can either develop a topic covered in one of the lectures, illustrate a theme or topic common to more than one lecture, choose one of the essay topics provided, excluding the one on which they write an essay, or choose another subject related to Scottish Culture (to be approved beforehand by the Module Leader).

Essay 50 1~2 Week 13 , WORDS= 1500 The second coursework assessment is an essay, which you may choose to structure as a report. There is an essay question for each of the eight different lecture topics. You may select any one from the list, on condition that it is not the same as your audio-visual project submission.
