Description of module content:

The module content provides you with an understanding of a number of key areas related to European history and politics, such as citizenship, society, immigration, nationhood and identities. It also considers economic aspects regarding their relation to society and politics, the EU and economic integration, and international relations. One-hour lectures will cover these areas. Throughout the focus is on considering the future of Europe in the context of its history and its politics. Follow up two-hour tutorials discuss these aspects considering their role in the future of Europe. We will reflect on and critically evaluate how different perspectives are expressed and conveyed through a number of different sources such as different national newspapers and different academic texts. Considerations of such sources will give you a broader perspective of the different voices and themes in the history and politics of Europe to today. This will help prepare you for future work in today’s globalizing world through giving you a strong foundation in current understandings of Europe and of its role and situation in a global context.

Face To Face Tutorial 24 The subsequent two hours of the session will consist of activities that apply the materials learnt in that session and in previous sessions as the module progresses [LO3,4]. These activities will be individual, pair, and group discussion and also incorporate role play, simulation, presentation and whole class discussion elements [LO3,4].
Online Guided independent study 164 All materials will be available on Moodle. Internationalisation The module draws on material from international media and sources. It is also implicitly international in its focus on a range of historical, economic, and political aspects of Europe from a global perspective. This will enable students to become effective international practitioners
Face To Face Lecture 12 This module consists of 3-hour seminars combining lecture and tutorials. The first 45 minutes – 1 hour of each session (after Session 1 which will consist of an hour long introduction + an hour lecture and a one-hour workshop) consists of a lecture on the theme being studied.

Portfolio 25 1~2~3~4 Week 8 , WORDS= 1000 words Coursework assessment will be both formative and summative and will consist of two portfolios. Thesewill be completed during the course of the module which will assess all learning outcomes (bothaddressing issues of a political and historical nature, with a portfolio covering two aspects: one from thefirst sessions of the course, and another from the later sessions). Students will receive feedback on aninitial draft before they submit, and also receive feedback on their completed portfolio tasks when themarks are returned to them.

Centrally Time Tabled Examination 50 1~2~3~4 Week 13 HOURS= 2 Hours In addition there will be summative assessment in the form of a 2-hour exam– this will consist of two sections. This exam will consist of tasks similar in nature (but with differentquestions) to those students will have already completed for the preceding portfolios. Each section willrequire students to successfully answer questions requiring full use of LO1, LO2, LO3, and LO4.
