Learning, Teaching and Assessment (LTA) Approach: |
Learning & Teaching methods including their alignment to LOsThis module will be primarily delivered face-to-face, supported by student centred activities and resources on VLE.Twelve 2-hour lectures will be timetabled in classrooms. They will include classroom-based activities and input from guest speakers. These will be designed to develop knowledge and understanding of the concepts and application of UX theory and methods (LOs 1&2)Twelve 2-hour practicals will timetabled in computer labs. These will be used to develop practical skills in UX data collection and analysis for the evaluation and design/development of interactive systems/services/devices/websites/software applications (LOs 3&4) The remaining learning activity will comprise reading and analysis of specified materials.A variety of online resources will be made available to match the diversity of learning styles, e.g. reading materials, links to web resources, discussions. There will be 2 assessments: a formative written proposal and learning contract for the coursework project and a summative project report that must address the feedback on the proposal.
The first assessment is formative and requires the production of a 1500 word individual proposal for the coursework (in the form of a learning contract) that will address LOs 1-4. This approach allows the student to tailor the assignment to their academic/career interests while ensuring that all LOs are addressed. The proposal will be developed with guidance from the module team. It will not be marked but detailed constructive feedback will be provided and the student will be graded on how the feedback on their proposal has been responded to and addressed in the summative submission (worth 10% of the mark). This requirement provides an incentive to complete the formative assessment.
The second assessment is summative and is a written report of an individual project undertaken as a ‘real world’ case study of perceptions and accounts of user experience (UX) of a specified interactive system, service, device, website or software application. 10% of the summative mark will be lost if the student did not submit a proposal or did not address the formative feedback on their submitted proposal. The student must pass each learning outcome to pass the module overall.
