Description of module content:

In this module you will explore the variety of communication channels, platforms and methods used in mass communications through analysis as well as practical production work. You will explore the skills behind producing digital communication content as well as the underpinning theories. Study topics include: Communication theories; digital communication theories; identifying and understanding your audience; creating and maintaining an online presence; blogging and podcasting; using photography as a communication tool; writing for the web; building your own personal brand; Journalistic and storytelling skills including interview techniques, culture convergence, and fact checking.This broad set of skills and knowledge will provide a foundation on which to build your developing media communication style and brand, preparing you for a career in a flexible and dynamic marketplace of communication.

Learning Outcomes for module:

Upon completion of this module you will be able to

LO1: Analyse a variety of digital communication methods.

LO2: Identify key target audiences and explore the relationship between communicators and their target audiences.

LO3: Demonstrate awareness of a variety of communication techniques and practices used in the fields of marketing, media and communication.

LO4: Outline a personal brand by creating content that will appeal to a targeted audience.

LO5: Present and manipulate content using a variety of tools.

Face To Face Lecture 10 Lectures introduce you to key concepts and theories around digital communication. You will also explore the role of audiences and personal branding.
Face To Face Tutorial 20 Tutorials and workshops enable you to practice and develop practical skills in delivering digital communications. You will be introduced to a variety of digital platforms and software and encouraged to explore which of these is best suited to the content you are producing and your own skillset.
Online Guided independent study 170 Guided independent study will allow you to individually research key topics and work on your practical skills in your own time.
