Description of module content:

This module offers a global perspective on the sports industry: considering the impact of different modalities and its effects on societies and communities. It critically examines the world of sports and its multibillion industries across the globe, including the different formats of popular sports, the penetration, and structure in different countries to understand their singularities.In this module you will learn and critically analyse the history and social context of key popular sports: how they reached various parts of the world, and their cultural and political impacts on society. You will explore the individual characteristics of the main leagues and international competitions, enabling you to investigate the areas and specialism you are passionate about. The module challenges you to critically appraise the financial aspect of sports industries by exploring regulations, stakeholders, and the emergence of the governing bodies which control them.

Upon completion of this module you will be able to

Face To Face Lecture 12 Informative sessions for the input of specific subjects, supported by learning technologies. During the lecturers, you will be invited to explore multiple aspects of the sports industry, including historical and financial debates on critical issues across the world. It mixes traditional lecturers with academic-supported debates, in which you are expected to actively contribute.
Independent Learning Tutorial 24 Tutorial and seminar sessions stimulate debates. They will also allow you to step out of your comfort zone and understand the sports industry in different countries and how it impacts diverse cultures, communities, and societies across the globe.
Online Guided independent study 164 During your independent guide learning, you will research, prepare, and rehearse for a presentation. You will also work on the production of a journalistic artefact.

Oral Presentation 50 1~2~3~4 Week 7 HOURS= 15 minutes In small groups, students will deliver a presentation on a case-study evaluating and analysing key drivers of sports finances. Students will be marked for their individual contributions to the group performance.
Project - Practical 50 1~5~6 Week 12 HOURS= 2000 words A journalistic output (One of the following: 2,000 words journalistic article with original pictures; a 7-minute audio package; 5-minute edited video) with a plurality of relevant sources, analysing critical issues in the sports industry.
