Description of module content:

This module with provide you with the basic knowledge and skills required for future legal education during the LLB course. It will also furnish you with the ability to work in a legal and wider-professional environment. The topics you will learn about include understanding and finding legal sources, using legal argumentation, analysing statute law, case law and legal research.

Learning Outcomes for module:

Upon completion of this module you will be able to

LO1: Show knowledge and understanding of domestic and international sources of law, including their typology, legal terminology, and research methods.

LO2: Identify and find up-to-date legal information using paper and electronic repositories.

LO3: Analyse and discuss the statutory law provisions, case law and legal research works.

LO4: Identify various methods of legal reasoning and use them in oral statements and written texts, including using recognised methods of citation and referencing based on OSCOLA.

LO5: Summarise case law and statutory law to demonstrate legal reasoning and present different views, including existing legal research.

LO6: Develop knowledge of the advantages and problems of the application of AI-based tools for use in the legal profession.
