Description of module content:

The Intellectual Property Law module explores the means by which the products of human intellectual efforts are recognized as protectable subject matter and how such protection works. Specifically, the module aims at providing you with an understanding of those areas of the law focusing inter alia on (i) patents, (ii) trademarks, (iii) design rights, (iv) copyright and (v) IP law remedies.Given the role of intellectual property as one of the foundations of the modern economy, and considering its impact on a wide variety of our daily activities, you will highly benefit from the acquisition of knowledge about key IP law principles and policy issues. From this perspective, therefore, the module will contribute to develop an understanding of innovation-driven business, with a focus on both the UK and EU.

Learning Outcomes for module:

Upon completion of this module you will be able to

LO1: Critically examine and analyse the legal provisions and underlying rationale of Intellectual Property law.

LO2: Demonstrate an understanding of the main challenges facing aspects of Intellectual Property law.

LO3: Demonstrate an ability to apply the substantive law provisions to a range of complex legal problems.

LO4: Analyse and understand information from both primary and secondary legal sources.
