Description of module content:

The module is taught over ten weekly interactive seminars. It will provide you with a firm understanding of the key principles of UK Immigration and Asylum law. Topics that will be covered include:Introduction to Immigration and Asylum law; Nationality and Citizenship; Human Rights and Immigration control; Entry to the UK – Family life; Entry to the UK – Work; Asylum; Claiming Asylum, Enforcement, Detention and Removal; and Challenging decisionsAs this is a dynamic area of law, the above will be adapted to reflect frequent changes in law and policy.

Learning Outcomes for module:

Upon completion of this module you will be able to

LO1: Demonstrate an in-depth knowledge and understanding that integrates the key principles of UK Immigration and Asylum Law and Policy.

LO2: Critically analyse, evaluate, and apply understanding and knowledge of the legal regulation and procedures of UK Immigration and Asylum law and policy.

LO3: Critically analyse and engage with the Immigration Rules and Tribunal procedures, including Appeal and Judicial Review, in Immigration and Asylum cases.

LO4: Critically analyse, identify the relevant legal issues in complex scenarios, and to explain the relevant law (statute and case law) and present a legally reasoned conclusion.

LO5: Demonstrate the ability to independently research the law and use appropriate legal and academic sources to develop and support arguments and conclusions with the appropriate use of OSCOLA, the law referencing system.
