Description of module content:

You will attend a series of introductory meetings to explain the dissertation process and introduce you to the core concepts and skills you will need to complete your dissertation effectively.In these meetings, we will discuss the research cycle and guide you in choosing your own research topics. You will also learn how to develop the aims and objectives of your dissertation and your core research questions. You will learn how to assess, review and critique the sources and, as part of this, you will consider the differences between primary and secondary sources. You will plan your dissertation structure and apply the core rules of research integrity and ethics to your work. We will also hold several workshop sessions covering the preparation of your outline dissertation; the arrangement of your research proposal; and the research methods and methodologies that you will be employing while working on your dissertation. By the end of the course, you will have written a fully-sourced piece of original independent research on a legal topic of your choosing.

Face To Face Lecture 8 Lectures will be held within the first six weeks to describe and explain the dissertation process and to provide a more in depth understanding of research methods related to your planned research approach.
Online Guided independent study 387 You will make a detailed appraisal of your proposed research by reading key sources and references (including books, journals and electronic resources) to determine the current state of knowledge, considering ideas as to how your research should be undertaken and assessing its practicality.
Face To Face Practical classes and workshops 5 Workshops will take place within the first 13 weeks to help you prepare an outline of your research, to develop the outline into a full research proposal, and to provide a more in depth understanding of research methods related to your planned research approach.
