Description of module content:

Brexit might have brought a withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union, but it has not stopped the need for continuous business interplay of UK companies with EU markets. UK companies that like to enter the EU market and sell their goods or provide services in the European Union need to comply with EU laws. Having said that, the module will not focus on the content of each individual regulation in different business sectors. Instead, the aim of the module is to help you to understand intricacies of the EU’s Internal Market from the perspective of a UK based company, to become more confident in applying EU norms, and to equip you with transferable skills such as commercial awareness and risk analysis. Case studies will be used to discuss potential challenges and barriers for UK businesses, and you will practise identifying legal and business barriers, drafting legal opinion for your client, and presenting legal solutions in a coherent and structured manner. Although an understanding of the basics of EU law (e.g. what is taught in LAW08120 EU Law) would be advantageous, it is not a prerequisite for this module as both the application of EU law and the internal market will be explained and discussed during the seminars.

Learning Outcomes for module:
