Description of module content:

On this module, you will develop an understanding of the core practical and technical skills for filmmaking today. You will acquire the skills required to work with a well-informed knowledge of up-to-date practice for filmmaking. You will apply the basic principles of workflow, including image capture and post-production processes, to creative practical exercises in filmmaking. You will develop your understandingof a range of methodologies, approaches, and creative concepts relevant to your image-making practice. You will learn about the technologies used in film and how new digital technology influences creative processes.

Learning Outcomes for module:

Upon completion of this module you will be able to

LO1: Outline the main theories, concepts and principles involved in digital workflow and creative camera techniques.

LO2: Develop an awareness of and reproduce routine camera operations required for the completion of creative filmic briefs.

LO3: Recognise and duplicate effective digital workflow skills to produce a professional filmic outcome.

LO4: Account for your creative ideas and respond to feedback.

Face To Face Lecture 6 Lectures provide you with the foundational theories, principles, technical parameters, and techniques of camera techniques, image control, editing, and digital workflows. The information delivered in these lectures will be developed and consolidated in the other learning and teaching activities.
Face To Face Practical classes and workshops 24 In these practical workshops you will implementing the theories, knowledge, and techniques taught in the lectures. You will learn how to use the equipment and how all of the pieces of equipment work together. You will also learn good practice, professional behaviours, how to work collaboratively, the importance of health and safety and its requirements, and how to apply this knowledge and these techniques on set.
Face To Face Seminar 18 In these seminar sessions you will participate in 'mini crits', whereby work that you have done, both in-progress and completed, will be screened and discussed. Peer and lecturer feedback will provide feed-forward information to help you with your assessments.
Face To Face Tutorial 24 In small groups and individually you will meet with members of the module team to discuss your development and your projects. These sessions will prove precise feedback to help you develop your skills and knowledge to apply to your assessments.
Online Guided independent study 12 You will complete compulsory reflections on each exercise and record those reflections in your blog. Additionally, each week you will reflect on and write about your practice in your blog.
Online GROUPIND_STUDY 116 In your groups you will complete your practical assessments. You will work professionally, collaboratively, and inclusively, adhering to all health and safety practices and professional practices and standards.

Project - Practical 50 2~3~4~5 Week 12 HOURS= 6 minutes The second assessment is the completion of a series of project briefs covering camera techniques and workflow. Due to the ever evolving nature of the topic of this module, projects will be defined in response to the technological considerations that are relevant at the time of delivery.
