On this module you will further develop your understanding of contemporary television production in drama and comedy formats. You will research and analyse the different approaches and styles of filming for location and studio based drama and comedy production such as one off dramas, series, continuing drama series (i.e. soaps) and comedy based formats such as ‘sit-coms’ and sketch shows as well as new forms for on-line delivery. Working in groups you will investigate, identify and practise the production techniques that are used in these programmes. Content in this module will be practice and workshop-led and will require students to collaborate together to devise, research and produce a completed pilot television programme. An enhanced level of production content and quality will be required with a clear progression from TV Factual Production and TV Scriptwriting and will involve higher competencies, skills and professional rigour. Each group will allocate specific roles and responsibilities to each individual member of the team. You will produce a Role Production File which will detail your role in the production and include all the relevant paperwork associated with that role in the project: i.e. research; treatments, scripts, camera scripts, design drawings, risk assessments, schedules and call sheets, music clearances etc. Each group will produce a location/and/or studio based final Pilot Programme. This will depend on the genre and format which you have devised. You will also reflect on the progress of the production and on the development of your individual knowledge and skills in an on-line learning log. Final projects will be screened to the year group and will be peer reviewed.
