Description of module content:

This module introduces you to the professional practicalities and business considerations of being a photographer in the contemporary photography Industry. The Module will equip you with the business knowledge and skills necessary to make informed choices on how to present yourself and your work within the professional realms of the Creative Industries. Through the Module you will become familiar with the necessary information needed to run a successful business within the Creative Industries. You will use this information to create a tailored professional business plan and a dynamic, industry-relevant, portfolio of work, targeted to appropriate prospective clients and businesses. Your choices in the creation of these will be guided by an understanding of relevant industry practices and the application of appropriate and specific means and methods. The module will be delivered through lectures, workshops, and tutorials including sessions from visiting contemporary professionals.

Learning Outcomes for module:

Upon completion of this module you will be able to

LO1: Critically identify and analyse professional areas of photographic employment and reflect upon the skills applicable to them.

LO2: Effectively utilise research and selection skills to make informed decisions towards the development of a professional industry plan and portfolio.

LO3: Distinguish and make judgements regarding the different forms and tones appropriate to writing, presenting and engaging with different markets and industries.

LO4: Apply initiative, self-motivation, creativity and autonomy to the design and arrangement of your plans and portfolio and its presentation and distribution.
