Description of module content:

This module will help you explore some of the possible areas you may wish to study. Over the course of the module you will learn how to develop your research skills and a range of research tools which will underpin and enhance your documentary film practice. You will develop your ability to read and write critically and analytically, and to articulate creative ideas and viewpoints orally and in written form. This module will also support employability skills such as teamworking, working to deadlines, setting objectives, creativity, communicating, organising and planning, critical evaluation and reflective skills.

Independent Learning Lecture 24 A combination of synchronous and asynchronous lectures will support your understanding and enable the critical evaluation of current research, research methodologies and advanced scholarship in documentary practice.
Independent Learning Project Supervision 12 In seminars and discussion, you will be able to rehearse and refine your arguments in peer groups. Tutorials assist with the fine-tuning of your findings, and encourage reflection on your own practice.
Online Guided independent study 164 Supported by lectures and project supervision, you will work independently to practice your advanced research skills, to collate, analyse and critically reflect on your practice, and to construct strong arguments for your findings. You will complete a Personal Development Form. You will revisit this plan as part of your critical studies throughout the module. Online resources in the Virtual Learning Environment will offer structured support in your study and learning.

Success in the film industry is dependent on practitioners being able to express themselves clearly in presentational forms. This assessment will enable significant formative feedback from tutors and peers.
Essay 60 1~2~3~4~5 Week 13 , WORDS= 3000 words This essay will evidence in detail the scope and depth of the research you have carried out in accordance with the Research Plan devised by yourself with the approval of your module tutor. This will be accompanied by critical analysis and reflection in the context of your own practice.
