Learning, Teaching and Assessment (LTA) Approach: |
Classes are in tutorial form and are highly interactive. Emphasis is placed on practising speaking, listening, reading and writing skills using the resources of the language laboratories and languages server. Extensive use of Moodle in conjunction with these facilities encourages practice, revision and independent learning. The key employability skills are: time management and self awareness; communication skills; IT skills and internet searching.Assessment (formative and summative);Feedback is given weekly during the interactive classes. The portfolio contains a range of formative (guided learning) and summative tasks (marked homework and class tests), which develop and test the students' language skills (grammar, reading and listening comprehension, written and oral production). Research/ teaching linkages; The module content and delivery is based on current research and best practice in language teaching and applied linguistics.Supporting equality and diversity; Materials are provided in hard copy and on Moodle. The languages server facilitates access to language learning materials. The assessments are designed to be accessible to students from a range of different backgrounds and first languages. Student Support Services can provide extra help as required.Internationalisation The module provides an insight into another culture and fosters understanding and integration.
