Learning, Teaching and Assessment (LTA) Approach: |
Learning & teaching methods including their alignment to LOs; Classes are in tutorial form and are highly interactive. Emphasis is placed on practising speaking, listening reading and writing skills, using the resources of the language labs and the languages server. Extensive use of WebCT Vista in conjunction with these resources facilitates practice, revision and independent learning. The portfolio contains three sections: the needs analysis, action plan and learning log, by which students will structure their own learning; a record of language notes and notes on current affairs; a record of tasks and research carried out as part of the module, using all four skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing.Embedding of employability/PDP/scholarship skills; Key employability skills are: time management and taking responsibility for your own workload; communication skills; research skills; the ability to argue a case or defend a position in speaking or writing in Spanish.Assessment (formative and summative); Informal feedback is given during the tutorials. The portfolio contains both formative tasks (guided research, language practice) and summative assessments (tasks and class tests).Research/ teaching linkages; The module content and delivery is based on current research and best practice in language teaching and applied linguistics.Supporting equality and diversity; Materials are provided in hard copy and on WebCT. The languages server facilitates access to language learning materials. The assessments are designed to be accessible to students from a range of different backgrounds and first languages. Student Support Services can provide extra help as required.Internationalisation The module provides an entry into another culture and fosters understanding and integration.
