Description of module content:

The aims of this module are to introduce students [1] to hands-on workshop practice including the use of machine tools, joining methods and the use of metrology equipment in the assessment of manufactured products. [2] To engineering practice in industrial situations including the H&S aspects [3] Hands-on manufacture workshop tools (e.g. welding, soldering, lathes, milling machines and drilling ).This module is intended to increase your knowledge and understanding of professional engineering practice. It will provide a sound basis to enable you to work competently, collaboratively, safely and effectively within a workshop environment and in the wider context of a typical commercial enterprise.

Learning Outcomes for module:

Upon completion of this module you will be able to

LO1: Apply knowledge of the operating principles of machining processes and machine tools to carry out basic workshop operations safely and effectively.

LO2: Understand the basic health and safety requirements associated with engineering processes and workshop activities.

LO3: Identify and explain the role of the engineer in ensuring security within engineering activities and organisations, including the protection of data, systems, and physical assets.
