School School of Computing, Engineering and the Built Environment
Subject area group: Engineering and Mathematics
Prerequisites

There are no pre-requisites for this module to be added

Description of module content:

This module covers two parts in the delivery, control and measurement & instrumentation. In the control part, a number of topics will be delivered include transfer function representation, block diagram analysis, response in time and frequency domains: stability analysis, simple closed-loop PID control system. Appropriate software is used to analyse the system response and performance.In the measurement and instrumentation part, these topics will be covred: measurement transducers, signal conditioning, data acquisition, accuracy, speed response and noise reduction techniques. The LabView software will be used for measurement and analysis.

Learning Outcomes for module:

Upon completion of this module you will be able to

LO1: LO1: Design and analysis of control systems and the properties

LO2: LO2: Analyse system model using mathematical modelling technique and analysis tools

LO3: LO3: design measurement systems;

LO4: LO4: analyse measurement systems.

Assessment
Type of Assessment Weighting % LOs covered Week due Length in Hours/Words Description
Report 50 3~4 Week 13 , WORDS= 2000 ReportReport This assessment includes the application of engineering principles related to sensor, instrumentation and measurement. The exercise also covers relevant calculation and system analysis. [C1, C2] The practical laboratory work will be carried out to obtain the measurement for analysis [12]
Centrally Time Tabled Examination 50 1~2 Exam Period HOURS= 2 Hours Centrally Time Tabled ExaminationCentrally Time Tabled Examination The exam covers a number of topics include the use of engineering principle equations for mathematical modelling of engineering system for both first and second order system, mechanical and electrical. This also includes both time and frequency domain analysis, as well as PID control system design and tuning. [C1, 2, 3] In supporting the above assessment understanding, a technical software is used in the practical laboratory session and some of the feature in the software will be used in the assessment.
