Description of module content:

In this module you will learn: Project management principles: Definitions and overview; types of projects; portfolios, programmes and projects. The project life cycle; time, cost and quality. Creation and use of work breakdown structures (WBS), cost breakdown structures (CBS), and organisation breakdown structures (OBS). Time and resource scheduling, estimating. Project selection and making the business case, stakeholder identification and analysis of needs. Success criteria, success factors and performance indicators. Building a team and team characteristics. Industrial team operations. Leadership and motivation. Communication methods, effective meetings. Reporting requirements and techniques. Negotiating; conflict management. The role of the programme/project office. Procurement, contractors and suppliers.Risk Management: Definition of key terms. Evaluation of and planning for risk, risk ownership and reporting, risk register. Contingency planning. Costs and benefits. Health and safety and environmental considerations.

Face To Face Lecture 4 Lecture to cover the main themes of the module. This will provide you with the understanding of all the aspects of project management which will be required. (M4, M9 & M15)
Online Guided independent study 146 Guided independent study towards successful completion of the work presentation & report. You will have a workplace supervisor and university tutor who will guide you through the assessments which are related to a real work based project. This method combines the independence of self-directed study with the guidance of a structured framework provided by academic staff. (M4, M9, M15 & M16)
Online Work based learning 50 Students will work on their assessment, with their GA mentor and other staff. This is to complete a set of "activities" set by the ML [M4, M9, M15 & M16]. The student achieves this through examination of project management issues that relate to the project they are studying. For example: budget control, risk analysis, staff management, outcomes, contingency, objectives & aims.

Oral Presentation 50 1~2~3~4~5 Week 10 HOURS= 30 minutes A presentation on the student's work is to be given to an audience including class members and academic staff. The presentation will be followed by a Q&A session, where the student is expected to provide more details of some aspects of their work and their conclusions.(M4, M9, M15 & M16).
