Learning, Teaching and Assessment (LTA) Approach:
Learning & teaching methods including their alignment to LOs
Preparation for practice and three study days: Modified lectures (LOs 2 & 4), tutorials (LOs 3) and practical classes (LO 1 & 2) are used. For LO2 students are required to complete online HAI units 1&2 and attend EHM scheduled classes. Independent learning is used to achieve LO 5. This is the first practice placement of the programme. Students will be new to the area of nursing practice therefore strategies, methods and support will reflect their 'novice-like' role. A higher degree of facilitator and mentor support is an acknowledged aspect of pedagogical theory and will involve an increased supportive role at this time. The practice assessment is outcomes based and will be achieved with guidance and information from academic staff and practice-based mentors. Students will receive a year long competency booklet which contains their clinical skills passport for their two year one learning experiences. As reflection is a major component of professional practice, participation in group reflection whilst in clinical placement will provide a supportive base upon which to develop effective reflection skills, attitudes and values (LOs 1 – 5). LO6 will be achieved in clinical practice under the supervision of the mentor and by achieving specific outcomes within the portfolio. Identifying and recognising the roles of other professionals in practice in relation to assessment, care provision and evaluation will be embedded in the practice competences (Los 3-5).
The minimum practice hours are normally 350.

Embedding of employability/PDP/scholarship skills
The students will begin to develop skills of communication, time management, professional attitudes and values. The students will be based in practice as part of a nursing team and will be introduced to Multidisciplinary team (MDT) working.
