Description of module content:

This Module explores complex health assessment and intervention. By the end of this Module, you will be able to determine and discuss the rationale for pharmacological and non-pharmacological intervention in relation to addressing complex and changing needs across the lifespan/ages and stages of development (LO2).

You will explore the nursing process to address the complex care needs of your service user group and prioritisation of care planning inclusive of preventative health measures where appropriate (LO1-5).

You will develop an understanding of the evidence base, legal frameworks and clinical best practice guidance that supports clinical decision making and care planning (L03) and how this may be communicated across a range of stakeholders (LO 3-5).

Learning Outcomes for module:

1. Evaluate the evidence base to develop the knowledge and skills required to assess, prioritise, implement and evaluate the care for mental health service users with complex health and social care needs.

2. Demonstrate effective problem-solving and decision-making skills, utilising a systematic approach, to address and meet the changing needs of mental health service users with complex health and social care needs and their families or carers.

3. Demonstrate understanding of key clinical, legislative and other formal decision-making frameworks relevant to nursing practice.

4. Critically reflect on the role of psychosocial interventions to help people with complex mental health problems.

5. Provide a rationale for treating a person under mental health legislation in Scotland.
