This module will be taught using a mixture of lectures, tutorials and hands on practical sessions designed to explain the principles of the research process, experimental design and evaluation of information. Online materials will provide a grounding in the relevant considerations and you are expected to engage independently with materials and exercises provided electronically. To ensure that you are as active as possible all classes will contain collaborative interactive exercises based on the online materials and suggestions for further study. Questions are encouraged within all face to face teaching and via Moodle.

A range of learning resources will be made available via Moodle to help you with your learning, including a weekly series of formative self-assessment tests that allows you yo build and test your knowledge of the various techniques and to prepare them for the summative assessments. You will have the opportunity to discuss your annotated bibliography with a member of the team and to receive guidance on during workshop sessions within the module.

Appropriate presentation of data and data analysis will be assessed through online tests (LO 2,3 and 4), building on the formative materials available. Summative tests will take place in weeks 6, 9 and 12.Critical evaluation and understanding of experimental design will be assessed through the production of an annotated bibliography (report- week 13) in an area of your own interest (LO 1 and 5).
