Fertility- The cell and cell division, Ovarian cycle, Fertilisation and Conception,
Introduction to genetics.
The Fetus- Basic embryology, Fetal growth and development,
The Neonate- adaptation to extrauterine life and minor disorders
Nutrition- Nutrition and metabolism, Fluid and electrolyte balance, Breast anatomy and physiology of lactation, Introduction to Infant Feeding
Prevention of Infection- principles of infection control, immunity
Maternal adaptation to Pregnancy
Anatomy of Pelvis and Fetal Skull



Learning Outcomes for module:

Upon completion of this module you will be able to
LO1: Outline knowledge of the control of fertility , conception and embryological development.
LO2: Outline knowledge of the anatomical and physiological changes that occur in the major body
systems in pregnancy and in the neonate and the impact they may have on maternal and infant health.
LO3: Relate the principles of immunity to prevention of infection.
LO4: Recognise the importance of optimum nutrition on maternal and child health.
LO5: Develop learning and study skills using a variety of methods and media, including the use of Moodle
