Learning, Teaching and Assessment (LTA) Approach: |
Learning & teaching methods including their alignment to Learning outcomes (LO) 1 to 4. The theoretical content of the module will initially be delivered using a combination of lectures, workshops and Moodle materials. To facilitate the application of theory to evidence based practice group tutorials, team based approaches and on line learning will be utilised. The focus of this module is to examine the relationship between midwifery practice and the underlying knowledge and evidence base. The learning and teaching methods utilised in this module will enhance your learning and development through the following strategies:Technology enhanced learning: Will facilitate enquiry based learning, information retrieval, information processing and problem solving skills (LO 1, 2, 3 & 4).Lead lectures with supporting group work: Will support professional skills development, evidence based practice and team working (LO 1, 2, 3, &4).Group work and student led seminars: Will support information retrieval, debate, situational analysis and professional enquiry (LO 1, 2 & 4).Research/ teaching linkages: Throughout this module you will be encouraged to access library resources, and utilise an appropriate evidence base for midwifery practice.This is achieved by examining the nature of midwifery knowledge and the underpinning sources of evidence and critically evaluating the application of an evidence base to midwifery practice.The underlying ethos of this module is to critically review and reflect on practice and examine the nature of evidence and authoritative knowledge within midwifery. This approach is demonstrated in the learning and teaching methods outlined above. Supporting equality and diversity: This module will conform to Edinburgh Napier University guidelines in supporting you in an inclusive and non-discriminatory manner, taking into consideration diverse student groups. These principles underpin the module content and the philosophy of mindful midwifery care. Internationalisation: This module will enable you to extend your focus to one which takes into account the relationship between local and national health care needs and responses within a wider global context. An outline plan for a research critique (500 words). Aligned to the summative assessment and an evaluation of knowledge and understanding of key principles of the research process. To be completed Week 8.

Written assignment : This is a 3500 word written assignment to be submitted in the form of a research critique of an article which will include an aspect of infant feeding, that relates to the principles of the Baby Friendly Initiative and is relevant to midwifery practice. It will enable you to demonstrate skills of critical reflection and academic writing; and encompasses learning outcomes 1 to 4. To be submitted Week 14.
