Description of module content:

This module will consolidate and enhance your critical thinking, analytic and communication skills through exploration and application of research methods and related ethical considerations. Lectures and/or workshops will explore case studies in research, utilising methods that include: ethnography, autoethnography, musicology, sociological theory, cultural studies, material cultures, documentary, and mixed methods. Further consideration of resources in research will be explored through literary review and data analysis. You will be encouraged to apply research methods in the conception and completion of a small research project that you will propose with consideration of your individual interests. Areas of research exploration may include, but are not limited to, music pedagogies, cultures, advancements and communities.

Upon completion of this module you will be able to

LO1: Critically reflect on application of research methods in contexts of music related outputs.

LO2: Analyse and evaluate literary and data sources contributing to research.

LO3: Conceptualise and realise methodologies in a research capacity.

LO4: Realise a research output through synthesis and application of research method(s).
