Learning, Teaching and Assessment (LTA) Approach:
Learning and Teaching Approach: The module will utilise the philosophy and principles of TESEP which adopts a blended approach to learning, teaching and assessment for this module using the content of the module NMS 09126 on Moodle. Students will be suppported to undertake the module assessment via under the supervision of a member of the mentorship programme academic team

Formative Assessment:
Development of a plan of 2000- 2500 word assignment with feedback from supervisor

Summative Assessment:
Reflecting on a case study from their own area of practice within which a student was assessed at the mid-term of a placement and found to be failing to meet their learning outcomes for the placement, in 2000-2500 words the mentor will analyse the learning, teaching and assessment strategies that were required to assist the student to meet their learning outcomes for their placement.

Description of module content:

This module extends the content of NMS09126 and is designed to enable you as a new mentor to apply the knowledge and skills required to mentor students in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (2006 / 2008) Standards to Support Learning and Assessment in Practice enabling you to demonstrate your ability to critically appraise the failing student in practice identifying an action plan to address this situation.

Learning Outcomes for module:

Upon completion of this module you will be able to
LO1) Critically explore the teaching and learning strategies that could be employed in practice to assist the failing student to achieve their learning outcomes.

LO2) Describe how they would create/ maintain/ enhance the appropriate learning environment to enhance and support the student learning experience.

LO3) Reflect on your own learning needs in relation to the identification and support of the failing student identifying an action plan for this.
