Learning, Teaching and Assessment (LTA) Approach:
This is a practice based module. You will undertake 12 sessions (6 days) in a specialist Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) service under the supervision of experienced SRH practitioners, as well as in your own workplace. You will be supervised in taking SRH histories and making assessments of clients’ needs and risks (LOs 1-4). You will actively participate in advising clients on contraceptive options and monitor contraceptive usage. You will participate in screening for Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) and Blood Borne Virus’ (BBVs) in low risk populations and offer health promotion and safer sex advice.

For the purposes of Edinburgh Napier University Academic Regulations this module is a SNMSC Practice Module

Formative Assessment:
Formative:
The formative assessment will encourage you to use a reflective model and critically evaluate assessment and treatment options in SRH. You will choose one case from your clinical experience and provide a short reflective account (500words) making sure you anonymise any identifiable characteristics. This should be posted on the designated Moodle forum and will be subject to both peer and lecturer feedback. (LOs 2 & 3)

Summative Assessment:
Summative:
You will be required to achieve the SRH competencies devised by NHS Education for Scotland while on placement. This will involve discussions with your mentor looking at your progress in achieving the set competencies. This provides an opportunity for self-assessment/ reflection as well as the opportunity to gain feedback from an experienced practitioner. (LOs 1,2,3&4)

All students have access to the module leader throughout the practice placement.
