Description of module content:

Students will be introduced to the theory and skills of non-pharmacological approaches in working with people to enhance their coping abilities. Attention will be paid throughout the module to the current health and social care drivers and to underpinning philosophies of the range of interventions. The module explores the delivery of psychological interventions for a range of health issues e.g. depression, anxiety, sleep problems, long term physical health problems e.g. diabetes, cardiac conditions as well as psychosis.

Upon completion of this module you will be able to
LO1: Evaluate the use of psychological interventions for a range of people who experience mental and long term physical health problems
LO2: Examine the impact of psychological interventions on recovery in people with health problems
LO3: Demonstrate an awareness of key therapeutic skills related to psychological interventions
LO4: Evaluate the research evidence in support of the delivery of specific psychological interventions
