Description of module content:

In this module, health professionals will cover the following key components which align directly to the RPS competencies (2021) for all prescribers; Consultation and Health Assessment; Review and consider pharmacological and non-pharmacological options; Shared decision making; wider influences of prescribing practice; safe prescribing practice; adverse event reporting and recording; health literacy; ethical and legal aspects to prescribing practice within a practice context; Policy and clinical governance of prescribing; multi-professional team decision making; professional accountability and responsibility; public health and well-being.

Learning Outcomes for module:

These learning outcomes correspond with the Royal Pharmaceutical Society
(2021) competency framework for all prescribers, NMC (2018) and HCPC
(2019) standards for prescribing programmes.
LO1: Critically discuss the application of consultation models within clinical
scenarios to demonstrate safe, professional and cost effective
prescribing.
LO2: Critically analyse the legislation and research evidence as it applies to prescribing practice.
LO3: Evaluate the relationship between the patient/carer and the multiprofessional
team involved in decision making for prescribing, supplying and administering medicines in relation to person-centred care.
LO4: Debate the wider influences on prescribing decisions in relation to one’s own sphere of practice.
LO5: Synthesise knowledge of pharmacology related to medications in one's own prescribing practice.
LO6: Appraise independent and supplementary prescribing in the context of one’s own prescribing practice.
