Description of module content:

The module will contain a comprehensive introduction to Fundamental Nursing Theory including: The Nursing Process and various Models of Nursing Care which will be developed in other theory modules.
Concepts of human anatomy will be explored including the cell, cell division, tissue types, organs, the immune response to an antigen, genetics, embryology, micro-biology and body systems. The body systems to be explored will be the cardio vascular, genitourinary, respiratory, gastrointestinal, locomotor, nervous, and endocrine. These will be put into context in human physiology.

LO1: Outline the key elements of a systematic approach to nursing care.
LO2: Recognise that physical, psycho-social and environmental factors can influence the health of patients/clients and their families/carers.
LO3: Gain an appreciation of the importance of developing nursing care from an evidence base.
LO4: Outline the structures and function of the body in terms of tissue types, organs and systems.
LO5: Relate microbiology to controlling infection.
LO6: Gain an appreciation of the relationship between the structure and function of the body systems and the delivery of compassionate nursing care.
