Definitions of health, determinants of health beliefs, attitudes, values and communication, self awareness, social stratification, Health inequalities, disability, diversity and deviation, ethnicity and gender, equity and justice, introduction to public health and health promotion, sociology and psychology of health and illness, voluntary and family caring, user/carer dimensions and multi-agency working, children and vulnerable adult protection.

LO1: Gain an appreciation of personal and official definitions of health and factors that influence health by exploring personal health beliefs attitudes and values.
LO2: Develop an awareness of the ethical principles of fairness and justice by recognising the existence of inequalities in health within society
LO3: Outline the importance of public health in promoting health and well being within health and social care setting
LO4: State common approaches to the measurement of health to assess health need
LO5: Recognise how an understanding of social and psychological aspects of health can enhance the care and compassion users/carers receive in health and social care settings
LO6: Outline the importance of caring roles and anti-discriminatory and multi-agency working practice in health and social care settings
