Learning, Teaching and Assessment (LTA) Approach:
There will be a blended approach to the teaching and learning in this module. Nursing students will work within set tutorial groups and explore health and well-being in relation to self and others (LO1, 2&5) and consider the determinants of health and the impact of these on health and well-being (LO 4&5).
An on-line learning package relating to anatomy and physiology will be undertaken by all students over the duration of the modules 1a and b (LO3 &5), with the key principles related to core clinical skills within the skills centre and class room setting (LO 1 & 2).
The teaching and learning approach in this module will offer initial exposure to Inter-Professional Education (IPE).


Formative Assessment:
On-line, instant feedback MCQs and short answer question due in week 8/9.



Summative Assessment:
MCQs and Short Answer Questions (LO1-5).
MCQ and short answer questions, assessment in week 14/15.

Description of module content:

On this module you will develop an awareness of the meaning of health and well-being from a personal, professional and values-based perspective.
There will be an introduction to the social and societal aspects of health and well-being. There will be a focus on the biological aspects of health including an introduction to anatomy, physiology, and microbiology within the lifespan.
You will be introduced to the concept of evidence-based nursing practice and gain an appreciation of the evidence sources which can be used to inform nursing practice. Fundamental healthcare skills will be introduced including mandatory training, first aid and other associated clinical skills.

Learning Outcomes for module:

LO 1: Recognise and relate characteristics of health and well-being in relation to self.
LO 2: Develop an awareness of health and well-being as a continuum over the lifespan in relation to self and others.
LO 3: Recall the structure of the human body, selected systems and basic processes of human physiology.
LO 4: Outline the determinants of health and their relationship to individuals’ health and well-being.
LO 5: Develop relevant literacy and information technology skills as applicable to clinical practice.
