Description of module content:

In this module you will explore evidence, theories and nursing practice about caring for yourself, and caring for others. Caring for others encompasses: the people in your care, their families, carers and your colleagues. The module content will investigate the relationship between your own wellbeing and caring for others. You will have the opportunity to reflect on your own health and wellbeing and develop an awareness of how this affects your ability to care for yourself, others and your colleagues.

You will explore how The Nursing and Midwifery Council Code, along with other ethical and governance frameworks will guide your learning and professional practice. This will include reviewing how nurses work in the Health and Social Care environment.

Approaches to caring for self, within the context of nursing, will be explored and include topics such as; physical and emotional wellbeing, self-compassion, reflection, accessing information, feedback and support from colleagues.

Caring for others will include learning about theories such as compassionate care, person centred care and relationship centred care. You will develop an understanding of vulnerability and resilience whilst considering appropriate responses. You will hear from people with lived experience and from practitioners, who will share personal accounts and reflections about the module topics. This will support your understanding of how theories and evidence are directly applied in nursing practice.
