Description of module content:

This module will introduce you to the Simulation and Clinical Skills Centre and your first practice learning experience within a range of health and social care settings.

Through simulation and clinical skills sessions, online learning and a period in a health and social care practice you will be introduced to a range of skills, policies, initiatives and services in ways that contribute to assuring the health and wellbeing of yourself and of others as part of interprofessional health and social care services.

In the module you will learn about the influence that carers, families and environment have on health and wellbeing and, under supervision, participate in a range of communication, relationship management and procedural skills.

At each stage you will be supported and assessed by suitably trained professionals based on skills and proficiencies outlined in your Practice Assessment Document (PAD).

Learning Outcomes for module:

LO 1: Practice in accordance with the NMC Code: Professional Standards of Practice and Behaviour (NMC, 2015) for nurses and midwives to develop core professional values of honesty, integrity and without discrimination
LO 2: Develop effective communication, relationship management and procedural skills which are evidence-based, safe, effective, compassionate and respectful
LO 3: Acquire a range of skills to meet the physical and mental health needs of individuals of all ages under supervision of a health and/or social care professional
LO 4: Gain an appreciate the role of the nurse working in collaboration with other fields of practice and other professions to promote a culture of safety and high quality care.
