Description of module content:

This module will introduce you to the Simulation and Clinical Skills Centre and your first practice learning experience within a range of health and social care settings.Through simulation and clinical skills sessions, online learning and a period in a health and social care practice setting you will be introduced to a range of skills, policies, initiatives and services in ways that contribute to assuring the health and wellbeing of yourself and of others as part of interprofessional health and social care services.In the module you will learn about the influence that carers, families and environment have on health and wellbeing and, under supervision, participate in a range of communication, relationship management and procedural skills.At each stage you will be supported and assessed by suitably trained professionals based on skills and proficiencies outlined in your Practice Assessment Document (PAD). Additional Drop In sessions will be available to assist students who need extra support to navigate the IT platforms used.

Learning Outcomes for module:

Upon completion of this module you will be able to

LO1: Practice in accordance with the NMC Code: Professional Standards of Practice and Behaviour (NMC, 2015) for nurses and midwives to develop core professional values of honesty, integrity and without discrimination.

LO2: Develop effective communication, relationship management and procedural skills which are evidence-based, safe, effective, compassionate and respectful.

LO3: Acquire a range of skills to meet the physical and mental health needs of individuals of all ages under supervision of a health and/or social care professional.

LO4: Gain an appreciate the role of the nurse working in collaboration with other fields of practice and other professions to promote a culture of safety and high quality care.

Face To Face Practical classes and workshops 24 Practical classes and workshops within the simulation and clinical skills centre, including pre reading and preparation, addressing Annexes A&B of NMC standards. You will have one full day of manual handling training and two half days of other skills required for clinical practice. These will be scheduled during Trimester 1.
Other Work based learning 162 Practice learning experiences within clinical settings - you will be assessed against learning outcomes and demonstrate achievement of platforms as per NMC standards 20 credit modules incorporate 200 notional study hours, however to meet NMC requirements this module requires you to undertake 200 hours gaining practice learning experience within clinical setting
Independent Learning Guided independent study 12 Online courses preparing you for the clinical environment
