Learning, Teaching and Assessment (LTA) Approach: |
The learning and teaching approach for this module fully online. The teaching episodes will be throughout the trimester and will include a range of on-line interactions and activities using a range of media. The modules’ online teaching will be focussed around WebEx interactive lectures, tutor led online discussion fora, small group online activities and facilitated whole class discussions supported by trigger audio, video, pod cast and Camtasia based elements. The core short lectures will form the basis for the theoretical perspectives explored and case examples will be utilised to contextualise the theory in real life nursing experiences (LO 1, 2 & 3).The group-work format has benefits as it will use the students existing knowledge and expertise to explore the theoretical, legislative and inter-relational aspects that impact on working in partnership with older people (LO 1 – 4). The use of online groups will allow for students to network and link with other students, make connections and offer peer review and peer learning opportunities supporting engagement and a sense of belonging. The module structure, delivery and the content will be centred on the application of the SENSES Framework (Nolan 2006). This is to both show the application of this approach in practice and to enhance the student experience by increasing their sense of security, purpose, achievement and belonging while on the module. The students will be encouraged to actively participate and draw from their wealth of knowledge and experience in practice to support their learning utilising the opportunities for students to apply what they learn to their practice (LO 4). Case examples and vignettes will be utilised in the teaching to support the application and contextualisation of ageing and nursing theories within practice supporting students who may not directly work with older people.
An opportunity for formative feedback is offered via case study submission, this will offer both formative feedback opportunity from academic staff and peer group feedback to support learning and support the development of the summative assessment (LO 1 & 2).
Summative assessment will be in the form of an essay that will examine the theoretical and legislative perspective of positive approaches to nursing care that support older people making use of the agreed case study to demonstrate the application of this knowledge, 2,500 words (LO 1,2,& 4). This assignment will also include a 1,000 word plan of care relating to the case study submitted as the formative element (LO 3).
