Description of module content:

In this online module you will learn about the theory and application of change management and explore mechanisms of implementing innovative approaches to your nursing practice. You will explore the theory of leadership and consider your role in leading, managing and facilitating change activities in your nursing practice. Module learning will encompass a person centred approach throughout within the context of local and cultural determinants that influence health care organisations.

Upon completion of this module you will be able to:
LO1: Examine the relationship between leadership theory and leadership roles in the context of your health care setting.
LO2: Critically reflect on the key theories and practice of leadership that may contribute to innovative nursing practice and organisational effectiveness.

Learning, Teaching and Assessment (LTA) Approach:
The LTA approach for this module is online. The modules’ teaching will be focussed around online tutorial small group-work and facilitated discussions supported by trigger short lectures that form the basis for theoretical perspectives explored and the use of case examples to contextualise the theory (LO1&2). You will also engage with learning tasks that promote self-awareness (LO3) about your ability and skill to promote innovative practice within your peer group and the wider inter-professional team (LO4).
This will be followed by six online lectures and supported by three Units of Learning presented in the Moodle platform. Students will be supported to develop their project proposals through the face-to-face teaching and by the end of completion of Unit One. Through the progression of Unit Two and Three, students will be asked to complete on line activities and produce a project proposal and project plan, for implementation of a selected change activity.

Formative Assessment:
The formative assessment will be on completion of Unit One. Students will be asked to submit a Project Proposal Plan on a predetermined template that indicates the change activity with supporting evidence based rationale for the proposal (750 words).

Summative Assessment:
The summative assignment will be the completion of a written Project Proposal. You will construct a project proposal relating to leadership and innovation and plan for the implementation and evaluation of a change activity that demonstrates your understanding of leadership and change strategies.
