This module will provide students with the opportunity to learn about the research process and the different types of evidence used to inform nursing clinical practice. Students will be asked to engage with different types of evidence that inform nursing clinical practice. This will support them to review literature systematically, formulate focused research questions, and develop a deep understanding of research methodologies and methods. Students will apply their knowledge to interpret and critique both qualitative and quantitative research, including the use of key statistical concepts reported in published studies, in order to evaluate how evidence can inform clinical practice. Ethical and professional implications of research will be considered, alongside factors that promote or hinder the translation of evidence into practice. Students will build towards developing a research proposal, applying the skills and knowledge gained through the module to communicate and plan research in a way that is relevant to nursing practice.Indicative content includes Literature Reviewing; Research Questions and Design; Methodologies and Methods; Approaches to Qualitative and Quantitative Research; Core Statistical Concepts; Critical Appraisal Skills; Ethics in Research; Evidence Translation into Practice; Proposal Development.
