Description of module content:

This module will introduce you to the key drivers for effective leadership within the healthcare service. You will explore the characteristics and qualities associated with leadership, change management and quality improvement. You will select a range of strategies and methods for managing change and quality improvement with the aim of improving the quality and delivery of your service. Topics you will cover will include: leadership theory, clinical governance and quality improvement, change management strategies, partnership working and leading teams through change.

Learning Outcomes for module:

Upon completion of this module you will be able to

LO1: Critically explore the changing healthcare context nationally in Singapore and globally in relation to healthcare delivery.

LO2: Demonstrate an understanding of behaviours and roles associated with effective leadership styles to facilitate change in practice.

LO3: Critically evaluate different types of evidence that inform an understanding of leadership, change management and service improvement.

LO4: Apply a change management strategy that leads to an improvement in the quality of care.

Face To Face Lecture 12 The teaching approach for this module is blended with face-to-face in person classes and guided independent study. The teaching activities will include scheduled lectures and tutorials in which the focus will be on: leadership theories, leadership styles, quality improvement, and the use of change management tools and reflective practice, to create, and evaluate, high-quality sustainable change, within your healthcare practice.
Face To Face Tutorial 4 To support your learning journey, the teaching schedule will include interactive tutorials in which lecturers and students can further explore key concepts.
Online Guided independent study 172 The teaching platform will be used to support your guided independent study (weekly schedule) and unit activities will guide you through he module in a structured manner. These will include online learning materials, podcasts, quizzes, scenario work and multi-media resources, that encourage your engagement, through a discursive and interactive approach to learning. In addition, group forums will help consolidate your learning and facilitate an opportunity for peer-peer feedback.
Independent Learning Tutorial 12 Online tutorial will be offered to supplement the face-to-face teaching and help students prepare their assessments.
