Description of module content:

This module will provide students with the opportunity to learn about the different types of evidence that may be used to inform clinical practice. Specifically, they will explore different approaches to undertaking the research process, research methods and will have the opportunity to develop the skills required to critique research and its relevance to practice. Students will learn how to interpret statistical analyses and qualitative data analysis. They will reflect on the ethical and professional implications of research and consider factors which promote or hinder the implementation of evidence to practice. This will enable students to focus on dissemination and communication of evidence in practice. After completion of this module students will have the knowledge and skills to be able to understand the research process, appraise evidence and evaluate its appropriateness for implementation of research into practice.

Learning Outcomes for module:

Upon completion of this module you will be able to

LO1: Critically evaluate the quality, type, and level of research evidence, including its position within the hierarchy of evidence, to determine its appropriateness for informing and advancing professional practice.

LO2: Demonstrate a critical understanding of the research process for both qualitative and quantitative studies.

LO3: Assess and apply ethical and professional standards in the design and planning of research

LO4: Critically reflect on factors that influence the implementation of research evidence into practice.
