Description of module content:

This module will give you the opportunity to prepare for the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) and gain insight regarding the registration process in the United Kingdom.A blended learning approach including simulation based learning, self directed learning, and face to face lectures will be utilized. You will develop and demonstrate clinical skills for clinical practice . You will learn how to systematically and comprehensively assess the health and well-being of patients, and use the information gained from the patient history and assessment to formulate an evidence-based plan of care. You will learn how to administer medication to patients and handover care of patient, using Situation Background Assessment and Recommendation (SBAR) tool. Patient scenarios will be used to help you apply your learning to clinical practice. The patient scenarios used in the module will relate to variety of healthcare environments (e.g. secondary care/primary care / long-term care/ rehabilitative care and community based settings) to reflect the diverse range of environments where patients have their physical and general health assessed. The patient scenarios will be based on common conditions that reflect global health challenges.You will learn how to review, understand and interpret medical or scientific information from papers or journals. You will also learn how NMC The Code relates to the professional behaviors it sets out.

Learning Outcomes for module:

Upon completion of this module you will be able to

LO1: Demonstrate how to undertake a comprehensive, systematic assessment of patients’ physical health.

LO2: Interpret data gained from the patient's health assessment and identify and evaluate appropriate evidence to formulate a plan of care.
Administer patient's medication effectively and safely.
Evaluate patient's care using the Situation Background and Recommendation (SBAR) tool.

LO3: Practice in accordance with the NMC Code: Professional standards of practice and behaviour for nurses, midwives and nursing associates’(NMC, 2022) to develop core
professional values of honesty, integrity and without discrimination:
Demonstrate and understanding of how NMC The Code relates to the professional values it sets out.
Review, understand and interpret scientific or medical information from journals,

LO4: Demonstrate effective communication written and verbal , relationship management and procedural skills which are evidence-based, safe, effective, compassionate and
respectful

LO5: Demonstrate a range of skills to meet the physical and mental health needs of individuals and to practice procedures safety understanding the importance of following procedural guidelines.
