Description of module content:

This module will introduce you to the following topic areas, which you will explore in the context of your area of nursing: Clinical Leadership; Clinical Governance and Change Management. You will explore partnership and team working, and critique effective leadership in contemporary healthcare practice. There will be opportunities to consider the role of the nurse leader in relation to teaching and learning, inter-professional education, clinical support, and supervision. You will consider leadership styles and qualities that are effective in supporting change within the complexity of healthcare settings, and explore theoretical aspects of leadership in the context of your practice. Reflective skills will be explored, and these skills will be used to explore the impact of leadership and change management within your clinical practice.

Face To Face Lecture 15 The teaching approach for this module is blended with face-to-face in person classes and guided independent study. The teaching activities will include scheduled lectures and tutorials in which the focus will be on: leadership theories, leadership styles, quality improvement, and the use of change management tools and reflective practice, to create, and evaluate, high-quality sustainable change, within your healthcare practice (LO 1, 2, 3 & 4).
Face To Face Tutorial 20 To support your learning journey, the teaching schedule will include interactive tutorials in which lecturers and students can further explore key concepts (LO 1, 2, 3 & 4).
Online Guided independent study 145 The learning platform will be used to support your guided independent study (weekly schedule) and unit activities will guide you through the module in a structured manner. These will include online learning materials, podcasts, quizzes, and multi-media resources, that encourage your engagement, through a discursive and interactive approach to learning. In addition, student led group forums will help consolidate your learning and facilitate an opportunity for peer-peer feedback.
Online GROUPIND_STUDY 20 During this module, you will be provided the opportunity to work co-productively with your peers. In small groups you will have an opportunity to meet and discuss the key concepts on the module, consider how these inform your change idea and grapple with the barriers that may exist within nursing practice when trying to implement change. In order to feel empowered to think like a leader, each group member will have the opportunity to lead their private group discussion.

Oral Presentation 100 1~2~3~4 Week 13 HOURS= 1500 A summative assessment has been designed with two elements. Element 1: is narrated PowerPoint presentation (or equivalent). In this presentation, you will critically discuss your proposed change to practice, and provide a rationale for the leadership approach and change management strategy that you would utilise. In doing so, you will use an evidence-informed approach, embed the principles of quality improvement and ensure patient safety is assured throughout the change process (LO 1, 2 & 3). Element 2: is a 500-word critically reflective summary (or equivalent) of the challenges you anticipate in integrating your proposed change into nursing practice in a sustainable way (LO4).
