Description of module content:

Unit 1: module overview/scene-setting ie placing law and ethics in context of healthcare/ethical theories/principles/ethical aspects related to informed consent.
Unit 2: ethical aspects of; private/public sector/mixed economy of care/resource allocation/health inequalities/health promotion/globalisation.
Unit 3: healthcare ethics across the lifespan; professional challenges; accountability/codes of ethics.

The module is ideal if you are interested in ethical, professional and legal issues in healthcare. Internet access is required to access module materials, participate in online discussions about contemporary issues in healthcare and communicate with other students and the module team. You will be encouraged to use materials relevant to your own area of practice (national and/or international) in development of the module assessment (critically reflective essay), in which you will explore and analyse a self-selected ethical, professional and/or legal issue relevant to healthcare.
