Description of module content:

This module will focus on individuals and groups in relation to their work. It will look at the contribution psychology can make to achieving ‘best fit' between people and their jobs, thereby to enhance productivity, satisfaction and well-being at work. Four main areas are explored in depth: selection and assessment at work; stress; work motivation: Theories, applications and implications for people and work, including aspects of team working and leadership.

Learning Outcomes for module:

Upon completion of this module you will be able to

LO1: Apply psychological theory to the workplace and explore the challenges in applying research evidence to support work psychology solutions.

LO2: Compare and contrast approaches to personnel selection and evaluate the effectiveness of psychological assessment tools in a selection context.

LO3: Critically reflect on theories of stress at work and associated workplace interventions.

LO4: Compare and contrast theories of work motivation and discuss their implications for the individual and the work organisation.

LO5: Critically compare approaches to leadership and their impact within the workplace.
